Designer 2000 with Motorola 68030 @40 MHz

Braid creation: a Designer 2000 computer with a Designer Mach-4 program using a MC68030 microprocessor at 40-MHz.
Why to use a Designer 2000? The need to show the power of the technology 30 years later?

Disappointing.

Quoting the seller:
"The initial clock rate of Chesster Challenger was 5 MHz and now it is 20 % faster (6 MHz).
it is rated 2100 US ELO at 5 MHz. So now is it around 2150."

Expecting more speed... :D

And, now...
Fidelity Electronics Par excellence running at 15 Mhz (+400%) in Designer 2000

I suppose that in the future, we will see more and more of these "upgraded" versions...

Hi,

I know the seller. He is a nice person, and he has been very helpful in analyzing these computers to help the MAME development team emulating Fidelity computers. We have collaborated together. His passion is experimenting with these chess computers... by taking them to the limit! :D

I'm always trying to respect the computer as it was originally: I enjoy repair and restoration. But I must admit that sometimes I have also carried out some of these experiments: for example with Par Excellence.
There is a good reason to choose precisely the Par Excellence or Designer 2000 programm, and not another... but I think this is no the place to talk about that matter.

Best regards,
Berger

I am curious to know the reason.
Please, enlighten us :)

By the way, I am very interested by all upgrades of old computers.
I have tried :), but always in new boards.

To be a collector of chess computers, you have not only to play and to collect, but also you have to know and appreciate the work that was done under the board.
So, our forum is a good place to discuss that, also with passion.
Best regards,

Maurice

Of course you are right. When I said it wasn't the right place to talk about this matter, I meant the forum section, since the "Topic name" is "eBay Activity..."
I'm going to open a new thread in "Repairs or Technical problems" to talk about that. :D
