MATTEL INC. is an American manufacturing company founded in 1945 by Harold "Matt" Matson, Ruth Handler, and Elliot Handler (MATT+ELlot = 2 first names of the founders). In the early 1980s, Mattel produced video game systems (including chess computers), under its own brands and under license from Nintendo.
